Being a Candle

I love that passage in Matthew 5 when Jesus talks about how when people light a candle, they don't hide it under a basket. They let it shine for everyone to see. In the same way, we need to shine for Him and tell others about Him. Lots of Christians try to blend in with everybody else; they seem to think that if other people know that they're Christians, they'll never get anywhere. Actually, it's the other way around. If you DON'T have God, you'll never get anywhere in life. And there's anther thing: why would you be ashamed of your best friend? What if you were ashamed of God around your friends, then when you got to heaven, God would be ashamed of you? That seems like a terrifying thought to me.
Have you ever seen those little cards that have an American flag on the front with the Ten Commandments? Well, on the back it asks two questions:

  1. Have you come to a place in your spiritual life where you know for certain, that if you died today you would go to heaven?
  2. Suppose you were to die today and stand before God and He said to you, "Why should I let you into My heaven?" What would you reply?
These are very important questions and if you are a true Child of God, you should be able to answer them. You should also be able to tell your friends about the Best Friend in the world, who literally saved your life. We should be telling everyone we come in contact with!
We have to be candles in the darkness around us; the world is filled with traps to try and stop us from being who God wants us to be. God wants us to be ambassadors for Him. He wants us to use our talents that he has blessed us with for His glory. OK, let's put this in personal context: God wants YOU, (enter your name here), to be one of His ambassadors; He wants YOU to use all of your talents for His glory. I mean, he gave you your talents, He's the one that should get all the praise and the glory.

    1. Thanks! I actually posted this on my Bible Study website last year. :)
I'm deleting that website now, so I'm getting all of the posts off of there and onto here.
